Ribbon knots, cabling, and handle decompositions

چکیده
The fusion number of a ribbon knot is the minimal 1-handles needed to construct disk. strong homotopy 2-handles in handle decomposition disk complement. We demonstrate that these invariants behave completely differently under cabling by showing (p,1)-cable any with one has and p. Our main tools are Juhasz-Miller-Zemke's bound on coming from torsion order Floer homology Hanselman-Watson's formula for immersed curves.

Cabling Sequences of Tunnels of Torus Knots
In previous work, we developed a theory of tunnels of tunnel number 1 knots in S. It yields a parameterization in which each tunnel is described uniquely by a finite sequence of rational parameters and a finite sequence of 0’s and 1’s, that together encode a procedure for constructing the knot and tunnel. In this paper we calculate these invariants for all tunnels of torus knots.
متن کاملDetection of knots and a cabling formula for A-polynomials
We say that a given knot J ⊂ S is detected by its knot Floer homology and A-polynomial if whenever a knot K ⊂ S has the same knot Floer homology and the same A-polynomial as J , then K = J . In this paper we show that every torus knot T (p, q) is detected by its knot Floer homology and A-polynomial. We also give a one-parameter family of infinitely many hyperbolic knots in S each of which is de...
متن کاملRopelength, Connect Sum, and Cabling of Paired Knots
We define a class of knots called paired knots and show that for any paired conformation, K, with diagram, D, R(K) ≥ 4br(D). We then show that the connect sum of two paired knots is paired and that we can cable a paired knot such that the resulting (p, q)-cable knot is paired.
متن کاملA Non-ribbon Plumbing of Fibered Ribbon Knots
A closer look at an example introduced by Livingston & Melvin and later studied by Miyazaki shows that a plumbing of two fibered ribbon knots (along their fiber surfaces) may be algebraically slice yet not ribbon. Trivially, the connected sum (i.e., 2-gonal Murasugi sum) of ribbon knots is ribbon. Non-trivially [6, 1], any Murasugi sum of fibered knots (along their fiber surfaces) is fibered. I...
متن کامل3 Addendum to “ Groups of Ribbon Knots ”
The purpose of this document is to clarify the inductive step described in the proof of Theorem 3.2 in [2]. In the second last sentence of the proof, it says, ‘it follows from the inductive proof that Rn is of index two.’ The question of how this assertion is verified was first raised by Dror Bar Natan and his student Ofer Ron [1]. To avoid any confusions that may arise in the future, the autho...
